Fearless shaky in first week of picks

The boo-birds are already out.

Fearless Forecaster’s lackluster 19-6 opening week has his detractors already out in full force, saying the one-time predicting wizard has been his better days. Twitter has been lighting up with rumors of his dismissal, but our picker vows it was a blip on the radar and better days are ahead.

Fearless missed on Winfield’s 20-18 victory over Arkansas City, a game the Vikings won in the final seconds. Also, he went with Smoky Valley and Inman to triumph, but both area schools lost to teams they defeated last year.

In the KCAC, he was not good as he didn’t see Friends knocking off Saint Mary, while he liked Avila to defeat Sterling.

And he foolishly picked KU to beat Coastal Carolina, a loss that could signal that a 1-11 season is on the horizon for Les Miles as he tries to construct something out of the dumpster fire that was the David Beaty area.

AVCTL DIVISION III

McPherson 28, Winfield 7 – The Vikings are better this year and the jury is still out on the Bullpup offense. But it’s been a while since these teams have played a close game and the Bullpups will be excited to be home.

Buhler 42, El Dorado 7 – Fearless has maintained that Buhler has closed the gulf from last year that existed with McPherson.

Augusta 20, Circle 6 –Both teams struggled mightily in their openers.

Last week – 5-1. Season – 5-1

MCPHERSON AREA

Canton-Galva 64, Chase County 20 – If the Eagles can do what they did to a good team like Little River, what will they do to a team like Chase County?

Smoky Valley 16, Haven 7 – It may take the Vikings a few games to find their stride.

Hesston 36, Larned 34—The team with the ball last may win.

Little River 28, Peabody 22 – The Redskins get into the win column.

Trinity 21, Inman 6 – The Teutons face a strong defensive team.

Bennington 26, Moundridge 12 – The Bulldogs have a lot of size and speed.

Last week 3-2. Season – 3-2.

KCAC

Sterling 31, McPherson College 27 – Too much talent in the skill positions as Sterling will win a close one.

Saint Mary 21, Bethany 14 – Both teams appear to have offensive struggles.

Avila 35, Bethel 31 – Maybe the best game of the day. Bethel is a sleeper team with that hard-to-stop flexbone offense.

Tabor 34, Southwestern 27 – Tabor knows with a loss it’s out of the KCAC race.

Kansas Wesleyan 59, Friends 17 – Nobody will touch the Coyotes.

Last week – 4-2. Season – 4-2.

BIG 12

Boston College 49, Kansas 7 – KU may have the worst offense of the Power 5 Conference teams.

Kansas State 28, Mississippi State 24 – This will prove the Wildcats are for real.

North Carolina State 33, West Virginia 24 – There’s a reason Dana Holgerson was looking to get out.

Oklahoma State 42, Tulsa 14 – Don’t sleep on the Cowboys.

Iowa 27, Iowa State 24 – The Cyclones didn’t look that impressive in their opener.

Texas 43, Rice 17 – The Longhorns bounce back big from a tough loss.

Oklahoma 63, UCLA 14 – Chip Kelly may be on his way out at UCLA as his act has worn thin.

Arizona 45, Texas Tech 42 – It will take more than 4 hours to play this game.

Purdue 30, TCU 24 – Don’t like TCU’s chances on the road.

Baylor is idle.

Last week – 7-1. Season – 7-1.
