Donations being asked to replace faded banners

A fundraising effort is under way to replace 18 banners in the McPherson High School Roundhouse.

The banners, which are hand-made, cost $500 apiece. The 18 banners that need to be replaced are actually red-orange in color and the new banners would be in line with the other banners. The older banners look faded because they’re actually made with a different texture and currently look in no way like the banners that were hung after 1995.

MHS only hangs banners for athletic teams or activities that win state championships, which means it’s an exclusive club. They are part of the Roundhouse tradition, which is what makes it such a special place.

Any excess money raised would be put in the McPherson High School Booster Club account.

The plan is to replace all the banners at the same time as a matter of efficiency and appearance. This project is being thought of in terms of a grass-roots effort because there 17 different activities — both sports and academics —  that have achieved banners. School officials are trying to achieve this through private donations in order not to touch the Booster Club fund that’s needed for today’s activities.

Individuals and local businesses are being asked to make a donation, no matter how big or how small. Checks may be made out to “MHS Activities” and in the memo line write “Banner Replacement.”
