It was one more signal that school is about to start, as the McPherson City Commission gave the McPherson Police Department the go-ahead Monday to hire crossing guards for the 2015-16 school year.
“Seven of the crossing guards from last year are returning,” Assistant McPherson Police Chief Mike Terry said. “We are still going to be in need of some subs. I do have some applications I'm going through right now in the case one of our crossing guards has a medical appointment or something to where they can't work that day.”
The commission approved the hiring of the eight crossing guards, plus whatever substitutes Terry feels is necessary.
School begins in McPherson August 13.
