Four McPherson residents were transported to a Wichita hospital Sunday night after being rear-ended by a vehicle on Interstate 135.

The accident, which occurred just after 11:30 p.m., happened when a 2009 Ford F150 pickup driven by Robert Pike III, 56, of McPherson slowed for traffic on I-135 near the First and Second Street exits in Central Wichita. Pike's vehicle was then struck from the rear by a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer driven by Matthew Reed, 36, of Wichita.

Pike, along with Brian Smith, 53, Amy Richert, 40, and Troy Smith, 44, all of McPherson, were transported to Wesley Medical Center with possible injuries. A fifth passenger, Theresa Spears, 36, of Wichita, was transported, but was not listed as having an injury.

Reed was uninjured. All but Spears and Smith were wearing seat belts.
