A Hutchinson teenager is dead and another badly injured following an early Sunday accident in rural McPherson County.

The Hutchinson News reports that Levi Simms, 18, was found dead by a McPherson County Sheriff's deputy after he stumbled upon the single-vehicle rollover accident just before 5 a.m. Sunday on Fourth Avenue just to the south of U.S. Highway 56.

Simms and the driver of the 1999 Pontiac Bonneville, Brandon Berry, 18, also of Hutchinson, were both ejected after the accident.

Berry was transported to McPherson Hospital. The News reports he was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon.

The accident apparently happened when the vehicle went into a ditch while northbound on Fourth Avenue and struck a utility pole. It then rolled several times before landing on its roof. Both Simms and Berry were ejected when it hit the pole.

The McPherson County Sheriff's Department doesn't have a time frame for when the accident happened nor for how long the teens were outside.
