Pairings for the third annual Maize South Soccer Invitational have been announced and expected powerhouse McPherson High has no bargain in its first game.
The Bullpups are matched against Hays at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8. Should they win, they would play either Salina South or Life Prep at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10.
MHS is coming off an 11-6-2 season, which concluded with a loss in the Elite Eight of state tournament. Ten starters are back for the Bullpups, who graduated only Ethan VanDorn.
Thomas More Prep has drawn a first-round bye and will play the winner of Wichita Independent and Maize South in the semifinals.
Only two games are scheduled for Sept. 8, with two more games on Sept. 9. After Thursday, Sept. 10’s, semifinal round, the action concludes on Saturday, Sept. 12. The championship game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
