The new-look McPherson College volleyball team showed a lot of grit in its season opener here Friday night, roaring back to knock off Waldorf College in a thrilling five-setter at the Sport Center.
The Bulldogs were trounced 25-10 in the first set, but charged back for 25-20 leveler. The Warriors then took the lead with a 25-18 third-set win, but again the Bulldogs had the answer with a 25-21 victory to force the match to its limit.
McPherson College ruled the fifth set, 15-6.
Taryn Lee and Lexi Kite were in double figures in kills with 12 and 11, respectively. McPherson High graduate Rhianna Smith made a seamless transition to the college game by leading the team in assists with 14, one more than Maci Schlehuber. All-KCAC preseason pick Emily Warner was gold with 42 digs as it appears she’s picked up where she left off.
The Bulldogs remain at home on Tuesday to take on crosstown rival Central Christian College.
