McPherson High’s volleyball team opens the season ranked No. 4 in Class 4A Division I, according to the Kansas Volleyball Association.

The Bullpups, who took third in the state last year, are picked behind defending state champion Miege, last year’s second-place team Topeka Hayden and Abilene.

After MHS, Louisburg rounds out the Top 5. The remainder of the Top 10 includes Rose Hill, Andale, Wamego, Hays and Basehor-Linwood.

Like McPherson, Hesston is ranked No. 4 in Class 3A, trailing Hillsboro, Silver Lake and Wellsville. Douglass rounds out the Top 5, with the remainder of the order including Garden Plain, Southeast of Saline, Cheney, Nemaha Central and Sterling.

Of note, McPherson High’s very first match on Saturday in Hutchinson against Newton is a battle of ranked teams as the Railers are No. 8 in Class 5A.
