In the end, McPherson College’s 3-0 victory over intra-city rival Central Christian College at the raucous Sport Center on Tuesday was much closer than the final score indicated.

After the Bulldogs won the first set 25-20, the final two sets went down to the wire as Mac won both by 25-23 counts.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 while it was the 2015 debut for the Lady Tigers.

Lexi Kite and Jessica Sanders threw down 11 kills apiece to pace Mac, with Taryn Lee adding eight. Maci Schlehuber came up with 16 assists and McPherson High grad Rhianna Smith chipped in with 13, while Emily Warner and Smith were tops in digs with 15 and 11, respectively.

Haley Bannister and Mayuko Shono topped Central with 11 kills apiece. Hustling Hannah Crandall was credited with a whopping 30 assists, while Ciara Costello notched 15 digs, with Bannister adding 13.

The Bulldogs have some time off before they open KCAC play on Sept. 2 when they host county rival Bethany College at 7 p.m. at the Sport Center.

Central makes its home debut Thursday against Union College.
