The Smoky Valley school district will no longer transport students to the McPherson Headstart program after action taken during their August meeting.
USD 400 Superintendent Glen Suppes reported that there is a shortage of drivers, in addition to a demand to transport students several times a day, with overlapping schedules, to McPherson. Further, the Suppes found the district was not required to offer transport.
USD 400 also is not reimbursed by the state for the transportation of students to Headsart.
The board voted 5-0 to eliminate the transport of students to Headstart in McPherson unless specifically required by the IEP.
