LINDSBORG — New Bethany College head softball coach Laura Moreno has a new assistant coach.
Allison Brown has joined Moreno’s staff as the second assistant along with Mike McCormick.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Allison to our coaching staff and Swedes softball family,” Moreno said in a press release. "Allison brings tremendous playing experience, energy and excitement to our program. Between assistant coach Mike McCormick and Allison, we are so fortunate to have such a balance of experience, wisdom, passion, excitement and leadership amongst our staff. I very much look forward to working with our staff and seeing the impact they will have on our program.”
Brown played collegiately for University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D., where she was named a 2014 Daktronics NCAA Division II third-team All-American as a senior. She also earned second-team All-Northern Sun honors in 2013 and 2014.
In addition, Brown was Daktronics second-team All-Region in 2013, first-team All-Region in 2014, and 2013 and 2014 NSIC All-Academic Team. During her career, Brown was named NSIC Player of the Week four times. She was invited by the Chicago Bandits of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) to participate in their 2014 tryouts.
Brown divided her time between first base and the outfield. As the leadoff batter her senior year, she led the team with a .400 batting average, .459 on-base percentage and .714 slugging percentage. She also led the team with 17 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs, 45 RBIs and 47 runs scored. She was second on the team in steals with 32.
"It is a great honor and privilege to be working at Bethany College, and I am very grateful for the opportunity the Swedes are giving me to live my dream and be a collegiate coach," Brown said. "I look forward to helping and maintaining a successful program with coach Moreno that will compete not only in the KCAC, but on the national level as well."
This past year, Brown served as the junior varsity softball coach at Fallbrook Union High School in Fallbrook, Calif. She previously was a co-trainer at Sports Training Complex in Portland, Ore., and worked at Golds Gym in Bismarck, N.D.
Brown graduated in the summer of 2014 from University of Mary with a Bachelor of Science in business administration and a minor in public relations.
