It wasn’t a “white out” for the Central Christian College volleyball team, it was a wipeout.
The Lady Tigers made their volleyball home debut at Alexander Arena on Thursday before a crowd completely clad in white and they gave the wildly enthusiastic fans exactly what they wanted.
The Lady Tigers strolled to 25-18, 25-12 and 25-9 victories over Union College.
It was a big night for Haley Bannister, who recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Hannah Crandall had another take-charge night as the team’s quarterback with 34 assists, while Ciara Costello led in digs with 17.
“Tonight was a lot of fun,” CCC coach Christina Ludwick said. "One thing we challenge our girls with is increasing intensity. In the first set they're allowed to get a feel for the opponent, but throughout the second and third they should be firing on all cylinders."
Ludwick saw improvement throughout the night.
"In the second set we hit .353 and in the third .429, after only hitting .133 in the first,” she said. “That's the type of growth we want to see in our offense. You can attribute that to our defense and serve receive, who held Union to a .088 hitting percentage and only one service ace. Overall it was a fun night to open our season at home with."
The Lady Tigers, now 1-1, are on the road Saturday for a triangular in Omaha with Grace University and Dakota Wesleyan University. They will play Grace University at 1 p.m. and then Dakota Wesleyan at 3 p.m.
