OMAHA, Neb. — The road to Nebraska proved to be a bit rocky for Central Christian College’s volleyball team on Saturday.
The Lady Tigers were in position to knock off Grace University in their first match, but the Royals stormed back to win in five sets.
CCC won the first set 25-19 and the third 25-20, but the Royals staved off elimination with a 26-24 victory in the fourth set, then won 15-11 in the decider.
Haley Bannister’s 19 kills led Central, with Mayuko Shono adding 11. Hannah Crandall once again was an assist machine with 48, while Ciara Costello recorded 32 digs and Kasi Kraus totaled 17.
Dakota Wesleyan then defeated CCC in three straight sets, 25-17, 27-25 and 25-17.
Bannister’s eight kills were tops, while Crandall was credited with 23 assists. Costello hustled to 2o digs.
Central coach Christina Ludwick thought despite the loss, her team played well as it continues to improve.
Central, now 1-3, hosts Manhattan Christian at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
