MHS netters still ranked No. 1

Despite a second-place finish in its opening meet at Hesston last Thursday, the McPherson High girls tennis team remains No. 1 in Class 4A, according to rankings by the Kansas Tennis Coaches Association.

Independence is No. 2, followed by Buhler, Winfield and Coffeyville. Others to watch are Abilene, Hayden and Miege.

The Bullpups are hosting the first of two invitationals on Thursday. Teams in the field are Derby, Douglass, Goddard Eisenhower, Great Bend, Newton, Valley Center and Wichita West. The action begins at 3 p.m. at the MHS Tennis Complex.

Hesston, which defeated both McPherson and Buhler on Thursday, is ranked No. 2 in Class 3-2-1A. Defending state champion Wichita Collegiate is No. 1. Wichita Independent is No. 3, followed by Central Plains and Conway Springs.
