McPherson Middle School’s volleyball teams made their Pioneer League debut on Tuesday, with the seventh-graders winning two matches and the eighth-graders losing two against Goddard.

The seventh-grade A-team was a 25-23, 25-14 winner.

“Our serving was a strength for us tonight,” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said. “That is something we have struggled with in practice, so to have the girls step up and serve the ball so well was a great way to start the season.”

The B-team was a 25-21, 25-9 victor.

“The girls had a great start to their season today,” Bullpup coach Abby Bradstreet said. “Overall, we played really well as a team and our serves were consistent. We have some things we can definitely improve on, but we have so much to be proud of today.”

The eighth-grade A-girls were defeated by a strong Goddard team, 8-25 and 13-25.

“For the first match of the season, the girls were a little nervous, but improved from set 1 to set 2,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “We'll make some adjustments and be ready to travel to Andover on Thursday.”

The B-team lost 5-25 and 14-25.

“The girls need to keep working hard and stay positive,” MMS coach Amiee McDaniel said.
