The McPherson City Commission approved both the 2015 Standard Traffic Ordinance and the Uniform Public Offense Code during Monday's meeting.
McPherson City Attorney Jeff Houston says the UPOC remained unchanged from 2014, while the STO had two changes.
“One, we make it clear that, for handicap parking, it has to be signed up on a pole, not just painted on the asphalt or the concrete,” Houston said. “That becomes very problematic to enforce. That's the way the judge has been enforcing it anyway.
The other change involves the removal of fines for seat belt violations.
“Because the legislature a couple years ago took away the ability of the cities to modify that,” Houston said.
The commission passed both codes unanimously.
