BUHLER — McPherson High’s volleyball team appears to be cranking it up a notch.

The Bullpups, coming off a 5-1 performance in the Hutchinson Invitational over the weekend, opened AVCTL Division III play on Tuesday by routing El Dorado (25-13, 25-20) and arch-rival Buhler (25-20, 25-14).

“Overall (I’m) happy with the play and getting two wins,” said MHS coach Christy Doile, whose state-ranked team is now 7-1.

There were several standouts on the night, Doile said.

“In the match against El Dorado, (Ashtyn) Schieferecke had a nice dig to keep the rally alive,” Doile said. “In the match against Buhler, I really loved how Addie Simon picked up her level of play and hustle. She got to a ball way off the court and brought it back in play. (Aislinn) Hughes came in for both matches and laid her body out to get a couple balls up. Megan Pedersen on the night was solid on serve receive, keeping us in system. Megan and Magan Alexander were powerful at the net. Magan did a nice job of mixing up her hits. Megan did a nice job of hitting out of the middle and back-side. (Rachel) Dossett led our team with six stuff blocks and only a couple errors. She had a nice read on the ball tonight. I love her energy back to the huddle.”

Kill leaders were Pedersen (15), Alexander (14) and Kaitlyn Ruth (13). Brooke Schrag’s 20 assists were tops, followed by Pedersen with 19. Simon’s 18 digs led the way, followed by Alexander (8) and Schieferecke (8).

The MHS JVs opened their season with a sweep. They drilled El Dorado (25-14, 25-17) and then needed three sets to outlast Buhler (25-14, 24-26, 25-17).

MHS goes to Mulvane on Tuesday.
