ANDOVER — McPherson Middle School’s volleyball teams were in action Thursday against Andover as they faced tough competition, with the Trojans winning three of the four matches.

A summary:

• 8th grade A — The Bullpups lost 12-25, 21-25.

“Our second set was the best we have played so far this season,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “We played with more enthusiasm and cleaned up a few mistakes from the first set. Our goal is to build on the progress from tonight and be ready for Tuesday's triangular with Newton and Salina South.”

• 8th grade B — The Bullpups were defeated 23-25, 13-25.

“I was very proud of the girls tonight,” coach Aimee McDaniel said. “They played well as a team and never gave up.”

• 7th grade A — The Bullpups were defeated 16-25, 13-25.

“We had a hard time finding a rhythm tonight against an Andover team that attacked the ball well,” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said. “The girls had to adjust to a last minute lineup change, so we had some people playing in different positions. I was pleased with their effort and we will continue to improve as the season progresses.”

• 7th grade B — The Bullpups were a 22-25, 25-21, 15-12 winner.

“I’m proud of the girls tonight and how they never stopped playing,” MMS coach Abby Bradstreet said. “They worked hard ,but really struggled with their passing. We need to work on following the ball and staying calm under pressure, instead of letting our nerves get the best of us.”
