ATCHISON — McPherson College’s nationally ranked men’s soccer team was upset 2-1 in double overtime in its season opener Thursday against Benedictine College.
“It's a tough one to swallow for the first game out of the gate," McPherson coach Doug Quint said. "However, we can take a lot of positive things from it. We were good in the run of play and created enough chances to win the match. Defensively we need to be more disciplined so we don't concede too many free kicks and corners."
Jesus Pescador scored the lone Mac goal in the first half. The Bulldogs were outshot, 11-7.
The Bulldogs, who are ranked 24th in the country, host No. 18 University of Science and Arts at 3 p.m. Saturday.
