CONCORDIA — McPherson High’s cross country teams finished third and fourth, respectively, in their season opener Thursday in the Concordia Invitational.

The girls were third, the boys fourth. Both teams finished just behind Buhler, which was a good sign.

Because of a computer breakdown at the meet, individual times were not available. Meet officials were sifting through the information today and hope to have it available later.

“The kids ran awesome,” MHS coach Gentry Nixon said. “The returning boys all ran about 2 minutes faster this year than last year, except Chris (Kirchner). The heat got to him a bit and he didn't finish where he's been running this season. It was a brutal day with the heat, the hills and the wind.”
