McPherson native Tanner Hawkinson was released by the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday as the team made its final cuts to get down to the 53-man limit.
Hawkinson was entering his third year with the Bengals. The 6-5 and 300-pounder played in four games in two seasons and was often praised by team officials for his versatility as he could be three positions.
With a shortage of offensive linemen around the NFL, Hawkinson would figure to be high on other teams’ lists.
Hawkinson was a standout at McPherson High, earning All-State honors his senior year as he played tight end and defensive end. He went on to start 48 straight games for the University of Kansas.
