Two Utah residents were injured following a pursuit by law enforcement Sunday afternoon in McPherson County.

The chase occurred just before 4 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 56 just west of 25thAvenue. The Kansas Highway Patrol says that Jesus Aldolfo Valdez, 29, of West Valley, Utah, was being pursued in a 2005 Toyota Avalon when he tried to pass another vehicle on the right shoulder.

When he came back onto the roadway, Valdez did so into oncoming traffic. He over-corrected, lost control and entered the north ditch.

Valdez and a passenger, Alexandra Beth Medina, 26, also of West Valley, were transported to McPherson Hospital with unspecified injuries. The highway patrol says neither was wearing a seat belt. No reason for why Valdez fled law enforcement was made available.
