(Standard Traffic Ordinance #44 & KSA 8-1520 Find the exact wording here: tinyurl.com/qeev6d9)

Loose meaning: No driver is allowed to drive on the left side of the roadway inside a no-passing zone or on the left side of any pavement striping designed to mark it as a no-passing zone whenever signs or such markings are in place.

It is permissible to drive around or over the defined line when an obstruction exists in the roadway, But only when it is safe to do so.

From time to time we receive complaints from residents regarding passing in a no-passing zone. Two areas which receive the most frequent complaints are East and West Northview Road, and East and West Avenue A.  Both roads are painted with a no-passing double yellow line from City Limit line to City Limit line which means NO PASSING!

In McPherson, passing in a no-passing zone is a moving violation punishable by a fine of $60, plus $75 Municipal Court Cost.

“The Traffic Stop” appears on Tuesdays to address topics of traffic enforcement in the City of McPherson. The Traffic Section of Patrol Bureau organizes “The Traffic Stop” and welcomes suggestions on topics to address. Please send your traffic enforcement questions unrelated to the current topic or topic suggestions to MPD via private message on Facebook.
