The National Commander of the American Legion will be making a stop in McPherson later this month.
McPherson American Legion Post 24 announced this week that National Commander Dale Barnett of Douglassville, Georgia, will stop in McPherson on Sept. 29 as part of a three-day tour of the state.
Barnett graduated from the U.S. Military Academy and served as an Army infantry officer from 1974 until 1996, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He served as the battalion executive officer for the 2ndBattalion, 18thInfantry Division during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Since leaving the military, Barnett has become a high school teacher and coach for basketball, baseball and cross country.
Barnett will stop in McPherson for lunch at the American Legion at approximately 11:15 a.m. He will be stopping at 15 American Legion posts in Kansas, as well as Fort Riley and the Kansas Veterans' Home during the three-day tour.
