MAIZE — It’s now “game on.”
Salina South scored 10 first-half goals Wednesday to end its game early with Word of Life in the first round of the Maize South Invitational.
That sets up today’s 4:00 semifinal showdown with McPherson High, which arguably could be the tourney’s championship game. Both teams are state ranked.
MHS had moved to 3-0 on Tuesday with a 5-0 rout of Hays. The Bullpups have scored 21 goals in three games, including 12 by Andric McGill.
With its 10 goals on Wednesday, South has scored 26 goals during its 3-0 start.
The finals are scheduled for Saturday. MHS will play either at 4 p.m. against the winner of Maize South-Thomas More Prep for the championship, or for third place at 2 p.m.
