SALINA — Kansas Wesleyan needed four sets to fend off McPherson College on Wednesday in KCAC volleyball action at Mabee Arena.

The Bulldogs fell to 0-2 in conference play and 3-5 overall.

The Coyotes won the first two sets 25-13 and 25-16 before the Bulldogs showed some grit by staving off elimination, 25-21. However, it was all Coyotes in the final set, 25-13.

It was a terrific night for freshman Rhianna Smith, a McPherson High grad, as she came up with 22 assists to lead the team and was second digs with 15. Emily Warner led in digs with 24 and Jocelyn Cochran was tops in kills with 11.

The Bulldogs are heading out to Colorado for a weekend tournament, playing in the Johnson and Wales Classic in Denver. They play Dakota Wesleyan and Johnson and Wales on Friday, then Embry Riddle and Johnson and Wales again on Saturday.

Next KCAC action is at home on Wednesday against Oklahoma Wesleyan.
