Severe thunderstorms tore through parts of Kansas overnight Thursday, producing some flash flooding and downing trees and powerlines.

Barton County had significant damage, as wind gusts as high as 85 miles per hour were reported. Barton County Emergency Management reported that 80 percent of the roof of a elementary school gymnasium in Great Bend had been torn off. A nursing home roof had also sustained damage.

Reports out of northeast Kansas included hail up to grapefruit size in Riley County, with Shawnee County reporting over three inches of rain falling in just one hour.

Additionally, a Delta Airlines flight heading from Minnesota to Texas had to be diverted to Wichita after being struck by lightning near Manhattan. None of the 65 people onboard were injured.

No damage has been reported in McPherson County.
