HUTCHINSON — McPherson’s seventh-grade volleyball team salvaged its final match in Saturday’s Hutchinson Invitational to complete a 1-3 day.

MMS lost to Andover Central (25-21, 23-25, 4-15), Maize South (10-25, 21-25) and Valley Center (25-17, 22-25, 10-15) before handling Derby (25-16, 25-19).

“We struggled with lack of communication in the first two matches and could not get back up once we were down,” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said. “Our teamwork improved in our final two matches. Overall, we had too many missed serves and too many dropped balls. I was proud of the girls for being able to end with a win. We are started to be more aggressive at the net and our coverage improved throughout the day. This was our first tournament of the year, and we faced some tough teams.”

MMS, now 3-5, goes to Salina South Monday, with Derby the third team in the triangular.
