McPherson College baseball coach Shawn Powell has announced his final group of signees for the upcoming season.
Here’s a thumbnail sketch, with Powell’s comments.
• Logan Necochea: OF, Hemet HS/Hemet, CA •
"Logan comes to us from Hemet High School in southern California. He is an athlete, former wrestler with a great mentality you love as a coach. Left-handed hitter who will be able to help us out in the outfield and in the small game."
• Bryce Brakebill: OF, Trenton HS/Trenton, TX •
"A raw athlete who started playing baseball his freshmen year of high school. Comes from a small town northeast of Dallas with great family support. His best baseball is in front of him and we are excited about his potential."
• Jackson Goodmiller: INF/OF, Rock Creek HS/St. George, KS •
"Jackson will be playing football and baseball here at Mac. Very good athlete who will probably help us out in the outfield this spring. Comes from a state championship program at Rock Creek, coached by Shane Sieben. Earned numerous awards and All-State in his high school career."
• Tucker Moloney: INF/P, Chapman HS/Chapman, KS •
"Tucker comes to us from a small town northeast of here. He is a great guy with a tremendous work ethic. He played second and pitched in high school. We are going to give him a chance to see how he develops and where he can help us out.”
• Colton Allemand: INF/P, Flint Hills HS/Rosalia, KS •
"I think the thing that really jumps out to me about Colton is his character. He is a great guy with a tremendous work ethic that's played shortstop and pitcher. He comes from a small high school and will need time to develop with repetitions. I'm not sure where his best position will be, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was on the mound."
• Colton Taylor: INF, Tahoka HS/Tahoka, TX •
"Colton is another high-character athlete with a great work ethic. We were impressed with his makeup and intangibles. He has the ability to help us out in the infield this year and with our small game and we're looking forward to helping him reach his potential."
• Ethan Woodcock: RHP, Rossville HS/Rossville, KS •
"Ethan comes to us from a very successful high school program northwest of Topeka, Rossville High School. Guys in this program are known for their toughness and I think Ethan fits that profile. He's a strike thrower on the mound and he'll have the chance to help us depending on how fast he develops."
• Wyatt Mitchell: RHP, Lee's Summit North HS/Lee's Summit, MO •
"Wyatt brings another pitcher in this recruiting class that throws strikes and competes well. He has a good frame already for a pitcher and should develop his velocity in the coming years. Like much of our younger pitchers, his innings will depend on how well he grasps things and how quickly he develops."
• Marcus Dreyer: RHP, Topeka West HS/Topeka, KS •
"Marcus sat out of baseball last year, but missed the game and wanted to join our program after visiting this past summer. He's got a pitcher’s frame with a good arm. His success will depend on how well he repeats his delivery. He does have as high of potential as anyone on our staff."
• Blake Ware: RHP, Allen County CC/ •
"Blake was a very important sign for us this past year. He has experience throwing in the Jayhawk League against very good competition. Most importantly for us is his ability to throw strikes. He'll be counted on heavily this spring to eat up a lot of innings for us."
• Stephen Curry: INF/OF, Colby CC/ •
"Stephen came highly recommended from Coach Carter at Colby. He has the ability to help us out in the field and at the plate. He's a great guy that will work hard and do what we ask. We need to keep him healthy and give him consistent at-bats to see his potential."
• Benjamin Labbe: INF, Fort Scott HS/Fort Scott, KS •
"We were very lucky to grab Benjamin late this summer. We were impressed with not only Benjamin, but also his entire Legion team and the way they played the game. He is another high-character young man that will see time at third base for us this year. His best baseball is in front of him."
• Jeromy Denton: RHP/OF, Colby CC/Mesa, AZ •
"We were fortunate to land Jeromy late this summer from Colby Community College. Another strike thrower that's pitched in some big games in his time at the junior college level. He'll get the chance to be a starter and he has a good demeanor that we hope rubs off on some of our younger players."
