DERBY — If McPherson’s eighth-grade volleyball team didn’t have bad luck, it would have no luck at all.

The Bullpups played two more three-setters on Monday, but again came up short to drop to 1-9 on the year.

Against Salina South, the Bullpups lost 17-25, 25-9, 8-15, while they were outlasted by Derby (25-18, 16-25, 14-16).

“Untimely service errors, free-ball errors and lack of communication at inopportune times hurt us,” MHS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “We will mix things up a little with some new rotations the next couple of days and hopefully find the right combination.”

The B-team, on the other hand, swept both teams. The Bullpups were a 25-22, 25-23 victor against Salina South and then dominated Derby, 25-13, 25-19.

That evened MMS’ record at 3-3.

“It was a team effort tonight,” MMS coach Aimee McDaniel said. “We passed the ball well and the girls were very excited to play.”

The Bullpups return home on Thursday to take on Hutchinson.
