DERBY — A sweep of Derby and Salina South has evened the record of the McPherson seventh-grade volleyball A-team.
The Bullpups on Monday swept Derby (25-8, 25-22) before needing three sets to take down Salina South (25-16, 11-25, 15-4).
MMS is now 5-5 on the year.
“Overall, I was so proud of the teamwork and determination the girls showed,” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said. “It was a huge improvement over Saturday. We had some mental mistakes and unforced errors in the second set against Derby, and in the set we lost against South. The girls did an amazing job of coming together as a team to close out both matches.”
Bohme said there were many standouts on the night.
“Katie Berg and Addison Seidl had awesome nights at the net,” she said. “Hailey Henson did a great job getting the ball to our hitters. Hope Wehrman also had some nice sets tonight. Hailey, Taylor Casebeer and Megan Lulloff did an outstanding job serving, and we got some nice defensive plays by Taylor, Grace Pyle and Olivia Morgan.”
The B-team duplicated the A-team’s effort with wins over Derby (25-2, 25-12) and Salina South (25-21, 18-25, 15-6).
“Tonight the girls played really well,” Bullpup coach Abby Bradstreet said. “They had some great serves, which helped them against Derby. When playing South, we struggled with communication, but came back strong for the win. Lillia Diggs played great at the net for both games. The girls' team spirit is consistently strong which makes them very fun to watch.”
MMS plays before the home crowd on Thursday against Hutchinson.
