BUHLER — The Buhler Crusaders are certainly holding their breath.

Crusader two-way football star Jace Williams was injured on Friday during their 20-14 victory over Mulvane and according to today’s Hutchinson News, his status for Friday’s game with Winfield is questionable.

Williams was injured early in the third quarter while on defense against Mulvane when a Wildcat receiver stepped on his foot. The report said Williams was trying to make a cut at the same time, which caused some type of knee injury.

He did not play the rest of the game.

Williams is regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in Kansas, not to mention one of the best defensive backs. At 6-5 and 220 pounds, he has good speed and strength. He’s also a fine basketball player and outstanding baseball player and is being recruited in all three sports.

Even should Williams not play on Friday, the Crusaders will be highly favored against Winfield, though the Vikings did rout Rose Hill last week.

If Williams doesn’t play, Ethan White is expected to quarterback. He rushed for 42 yards on eight carries against Mulvane.
