It was another busy day for McPherson Middle School’s volleyball teams as they hosted Hutchinson on Thursday.

A summary of the full day:

• 8th A •

The Bullpups lost in straight sets, 11-25 and 15-25.

“We came out flat the first set, but picked up our energy the second set,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “Our rotations and positions have changed a little, and I thought overall the girls handled the changes well. Tonight, just like the season as a whole, we had too many unforced errors, including struggling with serve and serve receive. We are working on staying consistent and being able to put a whole match together again.”

• 8th B •

The Bullpups lost 16-25, 11-25.

“The girls played against a tough team and came out not mentally prepared,” MMS coach Aimee McDaniel said. “We played much better as a team during the second set.”

The Bullpups outlasted Hutchinson in three sets, 17-25, 25-17, 15-7.

“We got off to a sluggish start tonight and did find our rhythm until it was too late in the first set,” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said. “I was so pleased with how the girls handled themselves to come back and take set 2. We changed our rotation a little bit, and had some girls playing in different positions and they did amazingly well with it for only having two days of practice.”

Bohme said there were several stars on the night.

“Olivia Morgan did a great job as libero for the first time,” Bohme said. “Overall our serving is getting more consistent. Taylor Casebeer, Hailey Henson and Megan Lulloff all had great serving tonight. Katie Berg, Addison Seidl and Megan attacked the ball well and Hailey did a nice job of getting the ball to our hitters. Hope Wehrman came in and played well on the back row for us. We need to continue to work on our net play and reducing the number of unforced errors.”

The B-team duplicated the A-team with a 25-17, 25-15 success.

“The girls had a great game tonight,” MMS coach Abby Bradstreet said. “They communicated as a team and were really strong on serve receive. Ashtyn Heim, Lillia Diggs, Abby Hipp and Autumn Muehler were all extremely consistent with their serves. We need to work on some of the basics and get our passes better so we can set the ball up easier for a hit. Overall, the girls had a fun game.”

The team record is not available.
