The McPherson Scottish Festival is coming up soon, and the traditional Highland Games will take on an added importance, as they will be used as a qualifier for the IHGF Highland Games World Amateur Championships.

“One lucky winner will go on to represent his country in Norway, all expenses paid, to compete in the world amateur championship,” International Highland Games Federation President Francis Brebner said. “The winner of the world amateur championship will go forward into the professional championships, which will be held in 2017.”

Brebner said the decision to have the qualifier be held at the McPherson Scottish Festival was an easy one.

“It's a great location, great venue, great games, it's well organized, the judging is impeccable,” Brebner said. “It's just a great fair.”

The 2015 McPherson Scottish Festival and Highland Games will be held Sept. 26-27 at Lakeside Park. You can find more online at
