OKLAHOMA CITY — The McPherson College women’s soccer team appears to be stepping out of the shadows of the highly acclaimed men’s team.
The Bulldog women made it three wins in a row since an opening-game loss with a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Mid-America Christian University on Saturday on a goal by Cydney Lewis, assisted by Kayla Faust.
Mac led 1-0 on a penalty kick by Belen Villegas with 6:30 to go, but the Evangels answered right back and the teams headed to overtime.
Sheryl Evans was superb in goal for Mac with eight saves as she time and again thwarted some attacks by the Evangels.
The Bulldogs will try to make it four straight wins at home on Tuesday against Manhattan Christian College. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

After starting the year ranked in the Top 25, the Bulldogs have flamed out in the pre-conference portion of their schedule as they are now 2-4.
Down only 1-0 at the half, the Bulldog defense showed some holes by allowing the Evangels to pummel goalie Aaron Parrott for four second-half goals, including three in a three-minute stretch. Parrott did have 10 saves as he was under siege all match.
Raphael Bonelle was a wizard for Mid-America with a hat trick.
The Bulldogs are off until Sept. 27 when they play in Omaha, Neb., against Jamestown College of North Dakota in a neutral-site game.
