SALINA — McPherson’s seventh-grade volleyball A-team split its matches, while the B-team came away with a sweep during a triangular on Monday.
The A-team, now 7-6 on the year, lost to Hutchinson (25-14, 15-25, 4-15), but came back to defeat Salina Lakewood (25-16, 23-25, 15-8).
“The girls ended on a strong note tonight,” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said. “We got down in set 2 against Hutch and it really affected our morale. We were not able to pull back together as a team and recover. Against Lakewood, we came back from being down in Set 2, but a little too late. We missed some key serves and made some mental mistakes. Set 3 was so much fun to watch.”
Bohme lauded several players.
“Taylor Casebeer and Olivia Morgan both had some outstanding defensive plays and saves,” she said. “Megan Lulloff, Grace Pyle and Taylor all did a great job attacking the ball, with nice sets from Hailey Henson. We need to continue to work on consistency with our serving, communicating and making smart plays. Overall, I was proud of the way the girls fought back and finished out the night.”
The B-team is now 12-2 after routing Hutchinson (25-14, 25-11) and easing past Lakewood (25-19, 21-25, 15-12).
“We had a great night of volleyball,” MMS coach Abby Bradstreet said. “Coming off of our first losses of the season on Saturday, the girls played the best I've seen all season today. Kenzee Godwin and Lillia Diggs had some amazing saves, while Melissa Mintzer, Ashtyn Heim and Abby Hipp were extremely consistent with their serves. Autumn Muehler and Breanna Schnelle had some strong hits as well. We played great as a team and our team spirit was high the entire night.”
