McPherson Middle School’s girls tennis team played back-to-back matches on Monday and Tuesday.

On Monday, the Bullpups had only three players available and lost a 7-2 verdict to Salina South. Jacie Myers notched a singles win, while Taylor Bruce and Jensen Mierkiewicz captured a doubles match.

It was MMS’ first dual loss of the season.

On Tuesday, the team competed in the Maize South Invitational and it was back at full strength.

CeAnna Allen won all six of her matches to emerge as the champion at No. 2 singles.

Bruce was 5-1 to take second place at No. 1 singles, while Myers and Mierkiewicz went 3-3 at No. 3 doubles to take fourth.

“The girls all played great, especially under pressure as they all won a match in a tiebreaker,” MMS coach Ricardo Sanchez said. “My goal for today was for the girls to be in the running for a medal at the end of the meet and by having everyone qualify for the semifinals they gave themselves a chance.”

The Bullpups play Thursday at Maize South.
