It seems like McPherson High’s soccer team has played nothing but big games recently.
And two of the biggest are still to come, beginning with Thursday’s home game against Hutchinson.
The Bullpups take a 7-1 record into the 5:30 p.m. contest at McPherson Stadium, while the Salthawks are 4-3. Note the time change as Thursday home games begin earlier.
MHS has stumbled recently against Hutch in what always seems to produce a high level of drama.
“As Hutch has done every year, I expect them to play very hard and give us a competitive game,” MHS coach Chris Adrian said. “They always play extremely well against us. Coach (Brad) Binns does a great job with his boys and honestly they have had our number over the past three years. I believe we have one tie and two losses in that time. They will come into Thursday’s game with a 4-3 record, but their three losses have all come against really good teams. These are the types of games that I really look forward to. I want to see this team challenged and pushed to play better and work harder.”
The Bullpups have been putting a lot of goals on the board. Andric McGill, who has scored in seven of eight games, is among the state leaders with 20 goals. Jose Arriola and Patrick Munsey are tops in assists with six apiece, while Kaden Warren has four.
The Bullpups are hoping to build some momentum from this game as they go on the road Tuesday to play the top-ranked team in Class 4-1A, Rose Hill.
