National American Legion commander to visit McPherson

The National Commander of the American Legion will be making a stop in McPherson Tuesday.

McPherson American Legion Post 24 announced that National Commander Dale Barnett of Douglassville, Georgia, will be making his stop at the McPherson post as part of a three-day tour of the state.

Barnett graduated from the U.S. Military Academy and served as an Army infantry officer from 1974 until 1996, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He served as the battalion executive officer for the 2ndBattalion, 18thInfantry Division during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Since leaving the military, Barnett has become a high school teacher and coach for basketball, baseball and cross country.

Barnett will stop in McPherson for lunch at the American Legion at approximately 11:15 a.m. Tuesday morning. He will be stopping at 15 American Legion posts in Kansas, as well as Fort Riley and the Kansas Veterans' Home during the three-day tour.
