WAKEFIELD — Elyria Christian School’s volleyball team continues to improve, splitting four matches on Saturday in the Wakefield Invitational to finish in third place.

“I am very pleased with our ladies' level of play this past weekend,” ECS coach Roger O’Neal said. “We have shown improvement in recent games in our skill level, but have struggled with consistency. At Wakefield when we struggled with our consistency, we showed some toughness to battle through our mistakes and return to how we can play. These ladies are a lot of fun to coach and watch play volleyball.”

The wins came against Peabody (25-16, 25-17) and St. Xavier (25-3, 25-8).

“In both matches we won, we played consistent and were in control throughout all four games,” O’Neal said.

The losses were to Wakefield (14-25, 24-26) and Blue Valley (22-25, 14-25).

“Our team's improvement this past weekend centered around our ladies not giving up,” O’Neal said. “We began our first game by falling behind to Wakefield 1-13. But we played even with the Wakefield ladies through the rest of that game. Then we almost got them in game 2. We were behind 20-24 and battled back to tie the game at 24 before called Wakefield called a time-out and finished the game 26-24.”

The Eagles host Peabody and Solomon on Tuesday. It will be Senior Night.
