HUTCHINSON — McPherson Middle School’s girls tennis team took part in the 10-team Hutchinson Invitational on Tuesday, coming away with a number of high finishes and each player earned a medal.

The Bullpups were at their best in the higher brackets, as Taylor Bruce and CeAnna Allen were both second at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. For Allen, it was just her first defeat of the year.

Jacie Myers at No. 3 singles and Jensen Mierkiewicz at No. 4 singles were both third in their respective divisions.

“The girls all played well, especially considering they had extremely long wait times between matches,” MMS coach Ricardo Sanchez said. “They did what they needed to do early in the morning to put themselves in a position to medal. They all finished strong, even the losses in championship matches showed me what the girls need to do to win those types of matches. We now look to finish strong this last week of our season, working to get the girls in position to be able to medal at the league tournament.”
