McPherson High School students Molly Black, Kaitlyn Van Asselt and Katie Wurm are in elite company, as they were named 2016 National Merit Scholar Commended Students.
MHS principal Brad Plackemeier says the trio were among the top 34 thousand students who scored highly on the Pre-SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last October.
“So, out of the 1.5 million, they're in that percentage,” Plackemeier said. “It says a lot about what they've done and, obviously, about what they're going to do after high school.”
Plackemeier added that having three honorees at one time was unusual.
“I've been, not in tons and tons of districts, but there would be times when they'd have one of theses in five years,” Plackemeier said. “And we had three in one year. And that says a lot to what these ladies do and have done.”
