NICKERSON — After dispatching with Pratt in straight sets (25-17, 25-16) on Tuesday, the state-ranked Hesston volleyball team was extended to three sets against Nickerson before prevailing (25-10, 22-25, 25-13).

The sweep moved the Swathers to 16-2 overall, 6-1 in the CKL.

Kailey Jo Ince led in kills with 20, while Cami Richardson added 15. Alaina Dunlavy had a good night setting up the offense with 30 assists, while Ince had a big night in the dig department with 25. Kylie Brenneman added 20.

“We came out strong against a good Pratt team that took us to three sets at the beginning of the year,” Hesston coach Jason Peters said. “We served very well at 98 percent with seven aces and a number of tough serves that kept them out of system. Pratt has several very talented hitters, but we were able to limit their options with good attacks and take advantage of the opportunities we were given.”

The Swathers had a stumble against Nickerson in the middle set, but Peters was happy with the way the team regrouped to close out the match in convincing fashion.

Hesston, ranked No. 6 in Class 3A, goes to Halstead on Tuesday.
