HALSTEAD — Smoky Valley’s boys cross country team finished in second place on Thursday in the Halstead Invitational.
The Vikings were led by Calvin Shannon (4th in 17:06) and Logan Windholz (5th in 17:06), as they crossed the finish line in a photo finish.
Also medaling were Josh Peterson (14th in 18:04), Isaac Peterson (18th in 18:13) and Austin Lustfield (19th in 18:21).
Zach Lott was 21st in 18:26 and Jackson Menke was 38th in 19:30.
“Calvin definitely met his match today and Logan Windholz was right there with him,” Smoky Valley coach Holly Lindquist said. “All five boys who earned points were in the Top 20 of the race. Halstead ran extremely well and we were pleased to beat Towanda-Circle on the boys side."
For the Viking JV, Carter Couchman led the way by taking fifth in 19:15. Other finishers were Matt Rupert (11th in 20:17), Chace Penner (17th in 21:05), Julian Maldonado (24th in 21:47), Chance Penner (25th in 21:54), Geoffrey Tubbs (42nd in 23:41) and Joseph Hunsecker (51st in 25:56).
On the girls’ side, Katie Adam medaled for the Vikings by taking seventh in 20:55. The Vikings were fourth in the team standings.
“Hailey Priddy sprained her ankle in the first mile and she was running in the No. 2 spot. The girls finished fourth despite running without her,” Lindquist said.
Other placers were Gracie Lott (29th in 22:32), Sophia Peterson (32nd in 22:47), Maggie Lambert (36th in 22:56), Cailey Cornett (41st in 24:24) and Kaleigh Salzman (53rd in 25:48).
In the JV race, Christine Richter was 16th in 26:29 and Elena Schneider was 24th in 28:07.
