HALSTEAD — Canton-Galva cross country coach Lyle Silsby says that at first glance it doesn’t appear his team had a good day on Thursday in the Halstead Invitational as it didn’t have any high placers.

But a closer look at the numbers reveals the Eagles mainly improved their times from earlier meets, even if their places weren’t high as the field was loaded with quality teams.

“In the 5K, Lane improved 2 seconds, Cash 16 seconds, Dawson 1 minute and 15 seconds, Tristan 1 minute and 21 seconds, Whitney a remarkable 4 minutes and 12 seconds and Kaylee 2 minutes and 35 seconds,” Silsby said. “In the seventh-grade mile race, Leah improved 17 seconds and Courtney 2 seconds. Leah and Whitney were the only medal winners on the day, but with the improvements the kids have been showing, it will be exciting to see how much better they can do by the end of the season.”
