WICHITA — It was a 2-2 day on Saturday for McPherson High’s JV volleyball team in the Bishop Carroll Invitational.

The wins came against 6A schools Wichita Heights (27-25, 25-14) and Wichita Northwest (22-25, 25-9, 25-12), while the losses were to Bishop Carroll (18-25, 18-25) and Maize South (15-25, 16-25).

The Bullpups had to overcome some early adversity on the day that had wide-range ramifications.

“We lost Elle Barrett to an injury during the first set of the day, but played pretty well considering losing that hitting power,” MHS coach Diane Marshall said. “Against the tougher teams, we missed her powerful hitting. However, Sydney Mossman continued to be a threat in the middle with 30 kills on the day, while Kenzie Goering and Meghan Smith each added 13.  Serving is still a strong point for our team with 29 aces and only 10 errors out of 182 attempts.”

MHS is now 15-7 on the season and is home on Tuesday to take on Augusta and El Dorado. Match time is 5 p.m.
