DERBY — McPherson Middle School’s girls tennis team finished its season in style on Tuesday.

The Bullpup four-girl team competed in the Pioneer League Championships and MMS was the only school to get all its players into the championship finals.

Jacie Myers, at No. 3 singles, came away with the championship, winning her title match 6-2.

The other Bullpup singles entries were second — Taylor Bruce at No. 1, CeAnna Allen at No. 2 and Jensen Mierkiewicz at No. 4. Bruce lost 8-6 in the finals, Allen 6-3 and Mierkiewicz 7-5.

“The girls all played outstanding, not only today but this season,” MMS coach Ricardo Sanchez said. “To finish the day with three league runner-up finishers and a league champion is amazing. We had some heartbreaking loses in the championship matches, but the girls showed what they are capable of doing. I can't stress enough how awesome it was to get everyone into the finals of all the singles brackets.”

Since MMS had only four players, it didn’t have enough firepower to win the team title.

“As a team we were able to finish in fourth place, even though we only had four players competing while everyone else had up to 12 players competing today,” Sanchez said. “I just want to thank the school for giving these girls the opportunity to represent our community in such a good light. I also want to thank all of the parents for being so supportive of all of the girls at all of our meets, I know other schools noticed how supportive the Mac community is of the players.”
