JUNCTION CITY — McPherson High’s soccer team returned from its week-long layoff to blank Junction City 4-0 on Tuesday.
The Bullpups totally dominated the action and four different players came up with goals — Jose Arriola, Devin Cape, Darrius Armstrong and Andric McGill. Assists were credited to McGill and Jamison Stout.
“I guess you can’t complain about a 4-0 win, but we will definitely need to pick it up if we want to be successful against Dodge City on Thursday,” MHS coach Chris Adrian said. “We played this game without Jeremy (Krehbiel) and Patrick (Munsey), who are both out with injuries and they were definitely missed. We played well in the first half and scored three goals. The second half allowed me to change some things up by resting some players and playing guys in different positions. Darrius Armstrong played really well tonight and played just about every position on the field.”
MHS had 11 shots on goal. Sam Minnick played the first half in goal for the Bullpups, with Tanner Rose finishing up.
MHS takes a 9-2 record to Dodge City on Thursday and Adrian said the Red Demons will be similar to Salina South in terms of speed and talent.
In the JV game, the Bullpups blew out to an 8-0 rout. Luke Brossard came up with a hat trick and Lorenzo Cornelius added two goals, while scoring singletons were Connor Williams and Austin Monroe. The other goal was an own goal.
Williams had two assists, while Monroe and Francisco Alcaraz had one apiece.
