McPherson High’s three losses — all to ranked teams — in the Ottawa Invitational last weekend didn’t hurt it in the state rankings, released this morning by the Kansas Volleyball Association.

The Bullpups remained No. 2 in Class 4A Division I behind Miege, which is first despite an 11-8 record as it plays big-class schools both in Kansas and Missouri.

MHS is 23-6 on the year. Two of its losses are to Lansing (No. 4 in Class 5A) and two others are to Newton (No. 5 in 5A). It also has lost to Goddard Eisenhower (No. 7 in 5A) and Blue Valley North (No. 6 in Class 6A).

Louisburg has climbed to No. 3 in 4A D-I and Abilene jumped a spot to No. 4. Hays rounds out the Top 5. Abilene and Hays are in MHS’ sub-state tournament in a couple of weeks.

Basehor-Linwood, Andale, Circle, Rose Hill and DeSoto completed the Top 10. MHS owns two wins apiece over Andale and Rose Hill and also has defeated Circle.

Smoky Valley came out of nowhere to appear at No. 6 this week in the Class 4A Division II rankings. The Vikings were ranked earlier in year before dropping out, but now they’re back in.

Hesston remains at No. 6 in Class 3A.
