McPherson College’s volleyball team closed the door on the first half of conference play here Wednesday night with a disappointing four-set loss to Southwestern.
The Moundbuilders prevailed in the first two sets, 25-23, 25-20, before the Bulldogs avoided the sweep with a 25-18 success. But Southwestern reassumed control for a 25-18 victory.
The youthful Bulldogs completed the first time through the conference just 1-9 and are 6-16 overall.
Lexi Kite led Mac in kills with 13 and also delivered four aces. Maci Schlehuber and Rhianna Smith passed off for 18 assists apiece. Current KCAC Defender of the Week Emily Warner did her usual thing with 26 digs.
The Bulldogs hope the second half of conference play goes better than the first as it starts on Saturday at Bethany. Match time is 7 p.m. at Hahn Gym.
